the blessings of friendships old and new

Yesterday, I found this beautiful sentiment at a new creativity website:

"...when you move, you lose some of your history that is interwoven to the physical geography of the place you're leaving and with the people who shared countless experiences with you—both mundane and life-changing. The people you think you'll stay in touch with aren't always the ones you do stay in touch with after a move, but that doesn't make them any less important in your life—your history with them is still there. And sometimes, the people you leave stay as much a part of your life as they ever were. It's inexplicable."

As I packed tonight in preparation for a girls' weekend in North Carolina, my heart really appreciated these thoughts. One of the girls - Catt - is a dear, dear friend...one of the few constants since I moved away from Wilmington six years ago. Over months, over miles...through happiness, through sadness...she has been there. The other girl - Christine -is someone I've met through Catt. We don't stay in touch on a regular basis...and yet, I always enjoy time spent with her. This weekend, the three of us will spend our time at the beach...hanging out, playing with babies, laughing, eating, relaxing...nothing spectacular, and yet just being together will be, in and of itself, spectacular. Because these two people are part of my history now and always...and I am thankful for the blessings they each bring into my life.

Here's to Girls' Weekend...sun, sand and all!
